So guys, the original Perfect Dark (but with enhanced graphics, no insane slowdown, and online multi) is being released on XBox Live Arcade next week. Anyone else besides me excited for this?

Perfect Dark was one of my most favouritest games ever. I don't think I'll buy this simply because it seems so incredibly dated now, I would have much preferred a remake.

I agree with glitch. It would take more than a graphical facelift to bring either Perfect Dark or Goldeneye up to 2010 FPS standards, unfortunately. Both have aged quite poorly. Also, Perfect Dark has the worst plot and voice acting in the history of gaming.

Besides, I still have an N64 and both game cartridges, if I ever fancy some nostalgia. :p

For some reason though, I wouldn't mind dropping points on Banjo-Kazooie or Tooie. It's probably because platformers haven't advanced as much in comparison to FPS's. Or maybe they have and I just haven't played any new platformers in the past 5 years.

I think it's an issue of realism vs. non-realism. Games that want to seem realistic will date badly when new technology comes out. Racing games (not of the Mario Kart variety) are another genre where this is very noticeable.

It's probably also the fact that in the past few years there's been hundreds of new fps to refine the genre whereas platformers have mostly dried up sans a few series. I've just recently set up the N64 acctually and I've had a go on Perfect Dark, it has quite a few neat touches still (and counter op mode is great fun) but you forget how far control systems have came.

I believe this new one allows you to have a more-modern (ie. dual stick) controls.

Thanks Kris, I'm already aware of this, that's why I mentioned it  Wink. My main reason for having not bought it already is because buying XBLA points is slightly more complex than it needs to be, and it's officially dissertation period for me, so I don't have much time to play video games Sad.

I bought Banjo Kazooie on the 360, but I haven't played it in a while. It does, however, get a ton of use from my nieces and nephews, so it really does hold up after all these years.
